CHARACTER INFO

Character: Kaveh
Canon: Genshin Impact | Patch 3.8 (Kaveh's Hangout on the ending The First Ideal
Age: Unknown, but between 25 and 31. For the purposes of Escordvi, Kaveh is 30.

Background Information: Kaveh's wiki page.

Personality:
On first impression, Kaveh could be easily regarded as passionate and impulsive. These things are, to an extent, true. Kaveh is outspoken about his passions and gives the impression he wears all his feelings on his sleeve, and truthfully it's not very hard to pick up on his mood, even though getting him to talk honestly about his bad mood is rather like pulling teeth on a crocodile. Kaveh routinely brushes off his low moments, whether it's pretending not to be homeless and in debt, cutting someone off from mentioning he's feeling down, or smiling and saying he's fine after being launched several meters and then mind-controlled. Kaveh is accustomed to putting on a brave face and hiding his sorrows, which means he's honest about his good times and a consummate liar about the bad.

Kaveh is motivated in no small part by an inescapable sense of guilt. Traumatized by the death of his father when he was a young child, and blaming himself for the death, Kaveh's guilt drives him to nearly self-destructive levels of altruism. He lives by the idea that he should do what is "right", no matter what it costs him, and refuses to back down from that ideal. But Kaveh will not give up on his ideals, even if they are rooted in guilt--for even good deeds done for selfish reasons can still be counted as good deeds. Kaveh has bankrupted himself for his ideals, gotten himself in deep danger time and time again, given up on things and people he wanted, and even saddled himself with all his roommate's chores out of a guilty sense of altruism, but he still chooses to be kind, in spite of what it costs him.

Kaveh's passion is the other fuel to the flame of his ideals, as he is a true aesthete, believing in the value of art and beauty simply for the sake of art and beauty, believing that these things are fundamentally necessary to the human experience. Kaveh staunchly stands by these beliefs, and passionately defends his views, though his unwillingness to lash out at most other people often leads him to be meeker when it comes to his clients, until his temper can no longer take it.

While he gives off the initial impression of being outgoing and cheerful, and it's true he never hesitates to reach out a helping hand to others, Kaveh is awkward and sensitive to others, often getting deeply emotionally invested in what are ultimately minor problems. This, combined with his impulsivity, can lead Kaveh to be deeply gullible and easily scammed.

Additionally, because Kaveh is stubborn, he tends to refuse to admit when his approach to helping others is burdensome on himself. Even if he is stretched too thin, Kaveh quietly believes he deserves suffering, and if he did nothing in the face of other's pain, he would deserve it even more. His stubbornness also leads to a sharp temper, which Kaveh fights very hard to keep in check, only really prone to outbursts of it with a very select few individuals...or when he's very drunk.

In a synthesis of all his other flaws, Kaveh is friendly but has few friends he truly trusts enough to be vulnerable about, which compounds the deep sense of loneliness and isolation that has dogged him since his father's death and his mother's subsequent depression. These oppressive facts of life often lead Kaveh to drown his sorrow at the nearest tavern...which wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't a complete lightweight. Or didn't do this with concerning regularity

What I'm saying is he's a functional alcoholic.

Despite all of this, though, Kaveh is known as a genius for a reason. While he finds the label troublesome at times, there's no denying Kaveh is exceptionally skilled at both mechanical engineering and architectural design, both things he takes deep pride in (though he's more likely to brag about the latter than the former). Kaveh is an exceptionally quick thinker and good at improvising, even if he largely uses this thinking to go get himself in more trouble.

Abilities & Inventory:
Kaveh will arrive in Escordvi with only a few key things, but as two of them are deeply tied to his abilities, they're quite important. Obviously, he has the clothes on his back, but of more importance are the following items.

Claymore: Kaveh wields a claymore, in his case the Makhaira Aquamarine. It doesn't have many special properties beyond being an excellent focus for some of his abilities.

Mehrak is a semi-sentient suitcase with telekinetic abilities that Kaveh made by hand and appears to power and control via his Vision (see below.) Mehrak can understand very simple commands (and seems to be able to pick up on Kaveh's mood and tone of voice), wields Kaveh's claymore for him, and can project holograms, particularly of blueprints Kaveh has loaded into it. Mehrak was designed to be able to help Kaveh survey build sites, and can use this ability in combat to create short-ranged explosions.

Vision: Kaveh carries a Dendro Vision, which is the source of and key to his more magical abilities. A Vision is a gift from Celestia, the represensation of a wish and a driving desire to achieve it, though the exact mechanics of how Visions are granted is unknown. When a Vision is forcibly removed from it's owner, it results in a loss of personality, drive and motivation, but a Vision's owner appears to be able to willingly set it down or give it away without any ill effects to their psyche.

Kaveh's vision's abilities are largely channeled through Mehrak, and it is unclear what he can do without the suitcase, as he made it after obtaining his Vision but has never been seen without it. Mehrak is not required to use his powers as long as he has his Vision, but he may not be able to effectively fight without it.

Kaveh's vision allows him to use Mehrak to wield his claymore, create Dendro Bloom Cores and be healed by their explosions, and manipulate the amount of damage caused by those cores. Bloom Cores require a source of water, which Kaveh cannot create on his own, but even standing in ankle-deep water is a sufficient source to create them. He can create them even when exposed to other people's water-based abilities, so long as he or what he is hitting has gotten at least a little bit wet.

Kaveh's strongest ability allows him to detonate every bloom core present in a radius around them and increase their damage significantly. As stated previously, Kaveh is healed by the explosions of bloom cores, even ones created by other people with dendro powers, which makes him a formidable opponent.

As noted above, the loss or confiscation of Kaveh's Vision will have dire consequences for his personality (even if his Vision is later returned, the damage to the psyche does not fully heal), and without his Vision he has no ability to use any of his powers, unless being able to free-hand drawing a perfect circle becomes a viable combat technique.

Kaveh's more mundane abilities include the following:

Master Architect: Kaveh is the most famous architect in Sumeru, with his architectural projects present in almost all corners of the country. As a designer, he is not personally responsible for building anything, but it is frequently implied he is personally present to oversee his worksites. In Kaveh's case, his design expertise applies to both interior and exterior design.

Mechanical Engineer: While Kaveh is much less prone to brag about this, he has a number of mechanical engineering feats under his belt: Creating mechanical butterflies so lifelike they fooled even highly perceptive combat experts, creating a semi-sentient floating suitcase, and completely redesigning and implementing a new type of freight elevator.

Artistic Abilities: Less expanded on in game, but Kaveh notes that he enjoys music, sculpture and painting, and his sketches are noted to be lovely, and he claims to be skilled at playing an instrument, inferred to be a dutar by the fact those are...what are in his home. He also has the aesthetic sensibilities able to build a mechanical butterfly so lifelike it can fool master hunters and other butterflies.

Mathematics and Spatial Reasoning: Kaveh demonstrates the ability to calculate complex mathematics quickly in his head, and apply this in the heat of the moment, notably calculating the trajectory of an out-of-control automaton and grab onto it to propel himself ahead during a race, and accurately aim Mehrak to grab flying objects while he, himself, is being shot through the air at high speeds.

Endurance: The man has no magical endurance or survival abilities but still somehow manages to get back up after life-threatening injuries, such as passing out from dehydration in the desert or being launched a good hundred feet and skidding another ten at high velocity. At this point it seems to warrant mentioning.

Animal Handling?: ...for some inexplicable reason, Kaveh seems to attract animals. Or at least desert foxes. It's possible they can just sense a sucker. He has also been caught building homes for stray cats.

ARMADA SELECTION

While a case can be made for Kaveh being in Corsairs, ultimately he would be most suitable for the Paladins, due to his ever-present need to help others. Kaveh values communal aid over survival of the fittest to the point he calls the latter disgusting, and while he has no real problem breaking rules if it is to do the Right Thing, he wants to help others, first and foremost.
