It's something an upperclassman at my school did. He's in love with an uncute tomboy and never get the memo she doesn't want anything to do with her. So he strongarmed every guy in the school, forced them to break up with their current girlfriends, and made them attack her every morning saying that no one has the right to date her until someone beats her in a fight.

Like I said, worse ways to show your love to someone.
