[Kaveh will indeed find that his fingers will be smudged with charcoal, much like how Alhaitham's thumb and fingers are also likewise dirtied and need to be cleaned before he can have his dinner.
...so that is precisely what he will do, as he turns around and heads to the kitchen sink in order to wash his hands (and therefore completely not answering Kaveh's question in the process).]
You can't say that after just walking away--move over a little.
[The sink is big enough for both of them, since it's a big kitchen sink. Kaveh prefers the bathroom soaps because those smell nice but either one will get charcoal off his hands.]
[Alhaitham says nothing in response but he does shift as asked, so now they're shoulder to shoulder as they wash their hands. Alhaitham, of course, finishes first, since he did start before Kaveh.]
I got tandoori for dinner. [He says as he dries his hands on the hand towel that Kaveh has specifically put there so that Alhaitham would stop wiping his hands down his his own shirt. He can't help it when its convenient, but at least this is a fair compromise.]
You found a place that does it here? We'll have to make note of that...
[Kaveh takes a bit longer, partly because there's more charcoal on him, and partly because he has to wet the towel a bit to see if he can't clean up his face. It's a struggle, without a mirror to see it.]
Try it first before deciding if you want to keep it in mind.
[Alhaitham lets Kaveh struggle with cleaning his face for only a bit more before he steps over to help, deftly taking the towel from Kaveh with one hand while the other cups his chin in order to tilt his face up.]
Did you forget there was charcoal on the pages before you decided to place your face against it? [A mostly rhetorical question as he busies himself now with cleaning the mess on Kaveh's face, part of which requires a bit of vigorous rubbing at his cheek.]
It's been long enough since I've had any I will mark even mediocre tandoori--mmph!
[Kaveh can't really keep his train of thought through his face being scrubbed, and though he makes a noise of protest--and sticks his tongue out at the questioning--he doesn't try to pull his face away, either, obediently standing there while being washed.]
It wasn't as though I was deliberately wearing my sketchbook, I got drowsy before I knew it...
[Kaveh's childish display and protest earns him a faint snort.]
You're going to have to clean up any stains you leave on the divan.
[He says that as if Kaveh isn't the one who cleans up the place most of the time anyway... not to mention the fact that they've dirtied the divan before on multiple occasions. Through joint efforts, no less.
Anyway, after a few more hard rubs to get rid of the more stubborn charcoal stains and a wipe around his eyes to get the grit off them Alhaitham is done, and he lets go of Kaveh's face as he steps back to the sink so that he can rinse off the towel.]
[It takes a moment for Alhaitham to emerge from the kitchen after Kaveh, mostly because he's gone on to get them both a glass of water each. He brings that over to the dining table, where Kaveh has already settled and made himself comfortable by inspecting the takeout boxes.]
They're not going to bite. [A dry remark as he places the glasses down going to sit down himself.]
[Kaveh bumps his shoulder against Alhaitham's--he knows there's no point teasing the man, but there's no harm in being a little playful about it, even as he digs into his tandoori.
...as expected, even the mild is a little...he'll just casually take that glass of water, thank you.]
Should I not be? Even Cid was excited about the discovery.
[Not that Alhaitham is in any way ashamed of his own excitement, and he would've been the same even if he wasn't with Cid when they came across that cavern. Though Cid also did tell him to not let Kaveh know about this...
Then again, Alhaitham has never been one to listen to people, even the ones who do have his respect. Not for things like these, anyway.
He spots the way Kaveh is not so subtly taking his glass of water after having tried a mouthful of tandoori, and while he doesn't say anything, the small huff that he lets out most likely is more than enough to express his feelings.]
[All Alhaitham does is to let out that hum; while he certainly can't deny what his senior is saying here—Cid has proven himself to have a good head on his shoulders—it certainly is a little at odds with what he'd just said prior about his bad taste. Tastes that are as bad as him, yet still brilliant somehow... it would be nice if Kaveh would stop contradicting himself anytime soon.
Then again, who would Kaveh be, if not for his constant contradictions?]
[There are no contradictions. Once, Kaveh had written that through the opposing viewpoint a more perfect whole can be formed. It is something he is once more allowing himself to remember he believes, as hope infests itself in his heart.]
Always grunting when I'm right...but you think he's brilliant too, don't you?
He has a good head on his shoulders and usually knows what he's doing.
[If anything Alhaitham can't deny Cid's innovation and drive to understand things, much like how the two of them feel the same.
There's a pause as Alhaitham eats another mouthful of tandoori, swallowing it down with a mouthful of water before he looks at Kaveh once more.]
I suppose your luck needed to have a turn somewhere after all the other times where it went against you.
[And for better or worse, it came up at a time where his senior probably needed it the most, what with bring by himself here in those first two months.]
What does my luck even have to do with Cid being a good man?
[THIS IS RUDE AND UNCALLED FOR, SIR?
He has, at least, worked his way through most of his tandoori, through the use of rice and the water. He will steal Alhaitham's water when he runs out, tho.]
[Just shrugs a little as he responds, clearly unrepentant. As far as he's concerned he's just saying the truth here, one that Kaveh should already have been aware.
But that aside, he is likewise finishing up his food—and has very much noticed Kaveh stealing his water, but says nothing about that. Hardly the first time his senior has done that, after all.]
so married...
[But now he's kind of rubbing at his nose to check...]
the most married...
...so that is precisely what he will do, as he turns around and heads to the kitchen sink in order to wash his hands (and therefore completely not answering Kaveh's question in the process).]
they're silly
[Well, that guarantees Kaveh gets up to follow him, and not just because he needs to wash his own hands. And face.]
Don't just ignore me, I know you heard me!
silly all the time
[He says, while ignoring Kaveh.
Anyway, he is at the kitchen sink now so he will wash his hands now. Charcoal be gone!!]
100% sillies
[The sink is big enough for both of them, since it's a big kitchen sink. Kaveh prefers the bathroom soaps because those smell nice but either one will get charcoal off his hands.]
silly and adorable

cuteness aggression real

it's so real...I have to bite them...
[Kaveh can't really keep his train of thought through his face being scrubbed, and though he makes a noise of protest--and sticks his tongue out at the questioning--he doesn't try to pull his face away, either, obediently standing there while being washed.]

chomp
[Kaveh hmmphs a little bit, but he'll go sit at the table and inspect the takeout boxes now that he's been thoroughly fussed over.]
the most bitable
They're not going to bite. [A dry remark as he places the glasses down going to sit down himself.]
me want bite
[But he's divided up the boxes appropriately! He is doing his part!]
So, anything to make note of besides your peculiar piscine discovery?
a little nibble
Nothing much. Finding that cavern was the main highlight of today.
[Its a great find though. Alhaitham is very pleased and Kaveh can probably sense that too.]
just a little bit
[Kaveh bumps his shoulder against Alhaitham's--he knows there's no point teasing the man, but there's no harm in being a little playful about it, even as he digs into his tandoori.

as a treat
[Kaveh heard that huff. He doesn't deserve this from you!!! He's done nothing wrong!!! He's just drinking this water to finish his chicken, okay!]
I'm not surprised, Cid seems to have about the same horrible taste you do.
a lil snack
You say that, but you're the one who chose to work with him.
[What do you have to say for yourself about that, senior??]
:9
[Cid is smart!!! Cid is really smart!!!!]
:B
